Setting up a group with eco values – badges

Going about setting up a club always takes quite an amount of coordination and bringing ideas from people together. Setting up an Eco-Club has brought many different ways of thinking.

One of this has been concerned with name badges. Quite early on, we decided that it’s always easier when we all know each other’s names. Usually, these are with peel-off label types but could we be more eco than that? Yes, of course, but how?

We looked at many different options. We wanted ones that would last more than just one session, we didn’t want plastic and we thought how great it would be if they could be individually different and there was an opportunity for being creative – we always love that!

New style badges

Great things happen when people discuss what to do and we came up with name badges made from logs. Each will be individual and can have a name added by the owner and can be used time and time again at the club. We’ll be adding a hole so that they can be secured onto a piece of cord or thong.

Why set up a Family Eco-Club?

We’re in the process of setting up an Eco-Club for families in the Ringwood area.

As part of setting up this Eco-Club, we wanted to record some of the things that we’ve been thinking about and maybe, once the club has started, we might share how it’s going and what we’re up to.

We are a church and we come to the ‘Eco’ forum with Christian values and the belief that the planet that we inhabit has been created by God and that we need to look after it. We realise that people come to the ‘Eco’ activism from many different base values and we love to be able to share together what is in common in our thought processes and encourage each other. We want to be part of conversations, particularly those at a local level.

In a way, we’re all at different places in being more eco-friendly – maybe it’s more like a continuum?! But it’s important for the earth and our futures, that we all do our bit and a bit more, no matter where we are on the continuum!

As a group, we want to look at how each of us can:

  • learn from each other to be more eco-friendly
  • reduce the resources that we use
  • “make do and mend”
  • enjoy nature
  • campaign on changes that we feel need to happen
  • reflect on various aspects of these themes
  • see how amazing natural items are
  • care for wildlife
  • learn how to repurpose items for other use
  • save items from landfill
  • share ideas
  • learn how to grow plants that are great for wildlife
  • AND …. many more things that we’re yet to discover!!

If you’re a family in the area – pop along and join in the fun! You can find further details here.
